Identity / Branding Process
ConsultationText Box: Why is TACH asking us to think about a shared identity or name for Neighbourhood Houses?

At the moment whenever you’re at a barbie and someone asks you “So what’s a Neighbourhood House?” we all probably pause, and struggle for a clear simple way to explain who we are and what we do. Or if we do, we are all describing it differently and aren’t always sure that people really “get it”.

For years at TACH conferences, in individual communities, and at regional meetings people have been expressing a desire to have a clear message we all share about what a neighbourhood house is and does. The TACH Board have asked John, as our Executive Officer to stop this being a continuous talkfest and to make it happen.

Having a clear brand or message about what we all do and have in common as 34 Neighbourhood Houses across Tassie can be powerful.

We really need to lift our profile as Neighbourhood Houses. We should be better known as houses and as a network. There aren’t too many community organisations that operate in 34 communities across Tassie.

At the moment whenever we as houses talk to people or funding bodies we always have to explain what Neighbourhood Houses are and what we do. What we really want is for that to be known across the community and for people to seek us out. We want to be top of their min, whether that’s someone in the community who needs a hand or wants to help out or a business that is looking for a cause to support in their community.

Having a shared message and brand will also create cohesion and build better connections between houses, and hopefully lead to more partnerships of houses working on projects together.

We are talking about summing up what it is we do now, and who we are – not changing how we work at all, just trying to get that work better known! What we want to do is get to the common “essence”.

As a part of the identity / branding process, we are asking Houses to consult with their communities around three questions. To see a PDF document of the responses that we are receiving, click the link below.
