Community Noticeboard

TACH is the peak body for the network of some 34 community and neighbourhood houses and centres in six regions around Tasmania.

In 2002, the Community Houses and Neighbourhood Centres funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (Tas.) embraced a new Framework for their program. Under that Framework the following purpose and goals provide a guide for house operations.

TACH would claim that the Neighbourhood House Programme is the most cost effective and accountable of the Department’s programmes. It is unique in its community building, community development and preventative health roles.

The Purpose

The vision for the Neighbourhood House program in Tasmania sets three goals to be achieved.

These goals are:

Building Community
Supporting People and Their Families
Enhancing Choices

Building Community
Building Community refers to building and supporting networks of inclusiveness, involvement, trust and mutual co-operation between people in the community and between them and the associations, institutions and businesses operating in the community. This develops community spirit and cohesion and builds community well being.

Supporting People And Their Families
Supporting people and their families is about building and supporting the personal skills, knowledge, abilities and resilience of people and their families in the community, with the aim of developing their health and well being.

Enhancing Choices
Enhancing choices is about supporting and extending training and employment readiness opportunities to assist people in the community achieve economic independence by increasing the options available to them.

Funding
Funding comes from a variety of sources but predominantly from DHHS (Department of Health and Human Services).

The Dowsing Point Community Centre is unique as it is funded by the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Administration
TACH is administered by a Board of Management made up of elected representatives from Member Houses and employs an Executive Officer, Development Officer and Finances Officer at their office in Rosny Park.
